Homelessness in NYC is an issue that has gotten significantly worse throughout the decades. The graph to the right shows the yearly number of homeless individuals sleeping in shelters. The large increase over the decade it quite notable, as well as the large uptick going into 2022.

As demonstrated on the graph to the right, nearly a third of the people sleeping in shelters are children. Nearly two-thirds of the homeless population consists of families of 2 or more people.
